This year CoID programme is taking part in the Helsinki Design Week! Below is a full programme of the event.
Design education and research is strong and expanding at Aalto University. Declarations of Design is a series of events to discuss hot topics in Collaborative and Industrial Design area in the Department of Design of Aalto ARTS, spiced up by visiting professors.
In this series of events, students, researchers and professors give a glimpse to Collaborative and Industrial Design master’s program of Department of Design in Aalto ARTS, in which an international group of master’s students learn about industrial design, experience design, service design, etc. During the morning the students will organise breakfast events to meet the audience of Helsinki Design Week and share their ideas, concerns, and dreams about the future of design profession. In the afternoon sessions, researchers run experience design workshops and discuss the future of industrial design.

Breakfast discussion on Designing for society
The role of designers as social networkers and enabler of social interactions in urban and political context. In the recent past there has been a lot of talk about the opportunities for designers to work with the cities and help public institutions to grow to tackle the challenges with a help of design. What are the actors in this ecosystem and what are the best practices? What are the career paths? How Designers can work in the public sphere?
14:30 – 16:00
Getting Started with Experience Design
Meaningful experiences are at the core of happiness and thus, worth designing for. Experience design aims to enable meaningful experiences through designing digital or non-digital services, products, spaces, events, or whatever best enables the wanted experience. The focus is on imagining the best possible experience rather than fixing the current problems.
This workshop introduces Experience Goal -Driven Design approach to c.a. 30 participants (no prerequisites). After an introduction to the topic, groups of participants will exercise experience goal setting for Helsinki Design Week 2017 and generate design ideas to match the goals. We hope the session will inspire the participants and give them basic skills to design for meaningful experiences.
Moderators: Yichen Lu and Virpi Roto, Aalto University
16:30 – 18:00
Interaction Design for Wellbeing
Interaction design is the practice of designing interactive digital products, systems, and services. It focuses on creating engaging experiences for a wide variety of audiences, contexts and domains. It can be particularly effective in creating a better tomorrow by increasing both the physical and mental wellbeing of people, whether they are at home or at work.
Since wellbeing is fundamentally dependent on one’s own actions, our approach to designing for better wellbeing is behavior change. Applying behavior change theories to interaction design opens up a number of design dimensions and approaches for different contexts. For instance, reflection – the exploration of one’s personal data leading to the identification of patterns in one’s own behaviors – can be used to provide behavioral recommendations to the user.
In this session, we will debate interaction design as a vehicle towards wellbeing, study and discuss demos of recent work.
