The Usability School (USchool), a cross-institutional minor for master’s students within the topics of usability and user experience, is offering a paid Master’s Thesis worker position to develop the USchool brands, design a new website and do a comparison study of the new and the old sites.

USchool is a minor that equips master’s students with skills on usability, user experience, digital user interfaces, and user-centred design. It is jointly organized by the departments of Computer Science and Design of Aalto University and the study programme in Cognitive Science of University of Helsinki. Usability School has been running since 1998 and is now being renewed.
Currently the USchool is looking for a paid Master’s Thesis worker to develop the new brand and design a new website for the school. Tasks included in the job are:
- Study and development of the USchool brand (1 month)
- USchool web site design & implementation according to human-centred design principles and based on the results of task 1 (2 months)
- Comparison study on the old vs. new web site of USchool from the perspective of user and brand experience (1 month)
The actual writing of the master’s thesis is outside the contract, but advisory support for it is naturally included. A suitable candidate has a bachelor degree in design, interaction design, or similar, or can otherwise demonstrate having the relevant design skills. Previous experience on web development (WordPress or similar) is necessary, as well as Finnish and English language skills.
USchool web site renewal will be a part time work commitment. The student will work for 3 days a week for the period of 1.12.2016 – 20.6.2017 (negotiable) on a 60% part-time contract resulting to a monthly salary of 1200€. The student will be employed by Aalto ARTS, Department of Design, Encore research team led by prof. Tuuli Mattelmäki. Virpi Roto will act as the advisor of the work.
