Learning Outcomes

Strategic co-design course provides an overview of strategic aspects of collaborative design in development projects for design, engineering and management students. The course provides an in-depth understanding and basic skills needed to succeed in a) strategic user collaboration; handling external user communities, designs by users and user complements to products and services. b) use of collaborative design and human centered design for reaching business goals c) Selection of appropriate collaborative design and human centred design methods; principles for methods selection and criteria for applying them in real world projects d) Knowledge of how to embed collaborative design in development organizations e) Collaboration strategy; how to manage the whole of user partners, user knowledge and user research in organizations. After the course the student is capable of assessing potentials and pitfalls in involving users in different design projects. The student learns to understand the applicability of various approaches, be critical with the ways users are involved and user data applied. They learn to find information about strategic codesign and apply that in the context of design practice. After the course the students also know the contemporary topics of research in the area of strategic user involvement.

Content

Strategic codesign course (SCDc) course provides an overview of strategic aspects of collaborative design in development projects. This includes:

  • strategic user collaboration; handling user communities, designs by users, user complements to products and services.
  • Use of collaborative and human centered design to proactively reach business goals
  • Selection of appropriate collaborative design methods; understanding and applying selection criteria in the abstract and in the real world projects
  • Knowledge of how to embed collaborative design in development organizations
  • Collaboration strategy; how to manage user partners, user knowledge and user research in organizations.
